Migrating to Debian
I decide to give Linux another shot.
No, not because Crowdstrike.
Because my Steamdeck is linux based. My company's server is linux based. Clockworkpi uConsole also linux based, and it's gorgeous.
But also,
Because the Windows PC in my bedroom fan goes louder when idle. Turns out Windows is doing 'housework' when I don't use my PC. Because Windows keep adding unnecessary features and bloating the system.
Also, Crowdstrike happened.
So I'm giving Linux another chance. This time, with a different mindset.
I choose Debian stable and installed it on my NUC7i7BNH. Display, sound, and wi-fi works right away. Great start.
My priority is a stable OS. Apps installation only from stable repo. No outside repo. No flatpak etc. Followed the Don't break Debian practice.
For the past few days, I've learn:
- Basic file management using terminal and midnight commander.
- Rebuilt my PKM system as plain-text only
- Learn how to use nano editor.
- Daily browsing, discord (via web) and playing TTRPG on Roll20 is flawless
- Resist the temptation to "run before learning to walk". Vim. Rsync. Other-better-apps-recommendations.
- To backup, I just copy paste manually to my USB.
So far, Debian is wonderful.
I also choose "The Linux Command Line" by William E Shotts as my guide.
This is good. Let's keep it simple.
