Negativity bias

My mum recently asked me if there's an alternative app to track her walking route, other than Strava.

I know why. Because the app map her morning walk incorrectly. There's a "jump" from 1 point to another, as if she's "flying". This happened 4 times in the past month.

Unacceptable.

She's been using it for years. It work fine all these time, except 4 times in the last month.

It wasn't the app's fault. Strava use the phone's GPS to record routes. Many factors can affect the GPS. Cloudy days, electronic interference, or accidentally activate "low battery" profile.

Second, the recorded metric doesn't matter that much. It's not the "why". She walk to stay healthy. The benefit is still there. But the "post" won't be pretty.

Third, it happened only a few times, out of so many years she's been using the app. And it's free.

We often take things for granted. Didn't notice things run smoothly, but quickly noticed if things went bad. Turns out there's a name for it. Negativity bias.

A reminder not to let a few mistakes ruin a good, long relationship. Find the cause and fix it.

Also, these 2 events doesn't my mum bad. It's my negativity bias.

I love my mum.
